I am an American Christian woman. I grew up in the western part of my country going to church every Sunday. At age 5 I surrendered my life to Christ and began a journey that will continue throughout the rest of my life. When I was little Christianity was about Faith and Good Behavior. No one explained to me the cost of following Jesus. Some days it feels like if only you weren’t a Christian you could be out there having fun with your friends, God wouldn’t be in your head and heart bothering you about the right thing to do. I could think a whole lot more about myself and forget what other people want or need. They didn’t explain to me that because I was a Christian my beliefs would be in the minority. What I think is often considered close-minded, judgmental, old-fashioned, and wrong. It is extremely hard to remember that my battle is not against flesh and blood but against the powers of darkness that rule our crumbling world. One day I hope to be a woman like Elizabeth Elliot who’s husband sacrificed his life for Christ in Ecuador. After her husband was murdered she traveled down to that very country, far from the comforts of her home to serve and forgive the people who killed him. To have that capacity for mercy, grace and love is a legacy worth fighting for!
